What Are You Doing This Year
Some time in December each year, I decide that I should learn something new about my craft by taking a class or workshop. I also like doing things that are out of my normal comfort zone. This year, I decided to take a slip casting class. I did this after picking up a vessel that another potter made and being delighted it the shape and feel of it. It was slip cast.
I'm just finishing the three classes of a 10 week quarter. It was a very busy 9 hours. We started the class by making a prototype model of what we wanted to make. We then transferred this model to a block on potter's plaster by carving and smoothing out the form.
Today we took this form and created a mold of it. The process is shown in the following video. We begin slip casting on Thursday.
